Compliance. Boring but Important.

GRAMMATICAS CONSULTING LTD
Briefing Note
By Dominic Grammaticas FCA
July 2026

High season is in full swing. Occupancy is up. The team is stretched. Every day is about delivering the guest experience, managing logistics, and keeping the operation running smoothly. Nobody wants to talk about compliance right now.

But this is exactly when it matters most.

When a business is running at full capacity, the things that keep it safe and legal are the first to slip. Not deliberately. Not through negligence. Simply because there are only so many hours in the day and the urgent always crowds out the important. The problem is that when compliance fails, it does not fail quietly. It fails publicly, expensively, and sometimes dangerously.

So here is a mid-season checklist worth running through. Is your licensing up to date? All of it, not just the obvious ones. Are your cold chain and HACCP food safety systems being followed rigorously, or have shortcuts crept in as volumes have increased? Is your water hygiene testing current? Are your guiding codes of conduct being observed in the field, or has the pressure of back-to-back game drives led to standards slipping? Is your waste management system coping with peak season volumes?

These are not glamorous questions. But a single food safety incident in a full camp can generate more negative publicity than a year of good marketing can repair. A water quality failure can put guests in hospital. These are not theoretical risks. They are the things that happen when good operators take their eye off the compliance ball at the busiest time of year.

The good news is that a compliance health check is not a major undertaking. It is a disciplined walk-through of your systems and documentation, ideally with a fresh pair of eyes that can spot what familiarity has made invisible. Half a day now could save you from a serious problem later.

If you would like help running a compliance review of your operation during high season, Grammaticas Consulting Ltd would welcome the conversation.

Are You Building Using the Technologies of the Past or the Future?

GRAMMATICAS CONSULTING LTDBriefing NoteBy Dominic Grammaticas FCAAugust 2026 Safari tourism has always required ingenuity in construction. Building in remote locations, off-grid, in sensitive environments, with limited access to materials and skilled labour. The sector has a long history of making things work in difficult conditions. But the question is whether the solutions being used today...
